History of GASPEN

In the early 1980s, the Atlanta Nutrition Information Exchange (ANIE) was established to facilitate education and collaboration among multidisciplinary nutrition support practitioners. The organization then became the state chapter for ASPEN as the Atlanta Area Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition in 1985. In 1994, the name was officially changed to the Georgia Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (GASPEN).

Since its inception, GASPEN has remained an active chapter, providing education through its newsletters, annual meetings, webinars and networking events. GASPEN is committed to the advancement of the science and practice of nutrition support and promotes the involvement of local practitioners, residents and students and recognizes their achievements.

Now, in our fifth decade, GASPEN aspires to continue our mission to foster the optimal use of nutrition and metabolic support for patients in all settings, to serve as a resource for nutrition support practice, and to support the evolving field of nutrition support.
